CWFS Lachlan Irrigation Research Site

Central West Farming Systems Inc. (CWFS) received Ministerial Approval to take over management of the Lachlan Irrigation Research Advisory Council (LIRAC) site at Condobolin in August 2013.

The site consists of approximately 120ha and 1224 Meg water.

An Irrigation Committee has been established with representatives from CWFS, industry stakeholders and irrigators.

These include Lachlan Valley Water, State Water, NSW DPI, GRDC Regional Cropping Solutions Irrigation committee members, and past Chairman LIRAC.

A GRDC funded irrigation project is being led by NSW DPI, with collaborators from the Lachlan (CWFS), Murrumbidgee, Murray Valley, NW Victoria and SE South Australia.

This project involves irrigated cereal and canola trials, and the development of a Best Practice Guidelines in Southern Irrigated Cropping Systems. Our projects will help local irrigation farming systems pave the way for agricultural innovation.

CWFS also liaise with CSIRO, Dow Agrosciences and various Universities in providing plots and assisting with important genetic breeding programs, such as Dow’s MAGIC wheat and CSIRO’s twin parent genome mapping wheat project.

CWFS is keen to hear from farmers and industry representatives who wish to be involved in any of the activities and/or potential projects. We will keep you updated with project information and activities.

To assist with the site establishment, any irrigation equipment which is available for either donation or purchase would be greatly appreciated (eg pumps, syphons, etc).

For further information regarding the CWFS Lachlan Irrigation site and its activities, please contact Diana Parsons, CEO CWFS on (02) 6895 1025 or 0408 655 205.
